 Speech Pathology Assessments

We offer speech pathology assessments that are personalized to your child's unique needs. Our experienced and friendly clinician will take the time to discuss your concerns and complete a detailed history of your child's development. We carefully evaluate your child's communication skills using various tools to determine whether further assessment is required and to help inform treatment options to meet your child's goals.

Speech Clinic partnerships

Little Voices Speech Pathology has a special interest in the assessment and treatment of speech sound disorders in children. We are passionate about providing timely, effective intervention in the early years, before speech impacts a child's self-esteem, behaviour, learning and literacy development.

Little Voices Speech Pathology has partnered with some local early childcare centres to provide Speech Clinics to children between 3-5 years of age.

WHAT TO EXPECT

comprehensive ASSESSMENTS:

Your initial assessment appointment provides an opportunity for the clinician to meet with you as a family and discuss your concerns. The speech pathologist will complete a detailed history of your child's development and spend time interacting and observing your child's communication skills. An assessment tool may be used to evaluate your child's speech, language or literacy skills. Further in-depth assessment may be recommended following this initial appointment, depending on your child's needs. The clinician will discuss this with you and decide on the number of additional assessment sessions required. The aim of a speech pathology assessment is to provide in-depth diagnostic information about your child's communication strengths and challenges. This information is then used to inform goals and select specific treatment techniques. A detailed assessment report is provided upon request.

INTERVENTION (THERAPY):

Once the assessment process is complete, the speech pathologist discusses results and collaborates with you to develop specific goals for your child. Evidence-based treatment methods are selected and your child will be offered a block of therapy/intervention. Your speech pathologist will recommend the frequency of intervention and progress will be discussed at the end of the treatment block. Further goals may be chosen and additional blocks of therapy may be offered until your child's goals are met.

Therapy can take place at your home, at school, at childcare or at the Norman Park clinic.

At the end of each session, a summary is provided to you which details what was completed and includes a homework plan and resources.
